EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Michigan State baseball evened its series with Northwestern on Saturday afternoon, scoring 10 runs in the final three innings of a 10-0 eight-inning run-rule win. The Spartans were held without a hit for the first five innings by Northwestern pitcher Christian Forniss. However, MSU third baseman Dayton Murphy started the sixth inning with a single and the floodgates quickly opened.

OKEMOS, Mich. (WLNS) – Okemos hosted Pewamo-Westphalia for doubleheaders in both baseball and softball on Friday night, and in both sports, the Wolves won game one before the Pirates answered back to take game two. On the softball diamond, the teams played two five-inning games. Okemos’ Keirlyn Bane pitched the full five innings in game one and struck out 12 Pirate hitters. She also hit a two-run double to help her own cause. Heading into the bottom of the fifth, the score was tied 4-4.

GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WLNS) – The Grand Ledge softball team is out to a 4-0 start and has outscored its opponents 49-7 so far this spring. It’s why the Comets are our 6 Sports Team of the Week. Grand Ledge had just two seniors on last year’s team and still found success, winning the Softball Classic for the first time since 2005 and reaching the district championship game. “It definitely gives a lot of confidence,” said senior first baseman Zoe Hart of last year’s success.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Michigan State baseball lost its fourth straight game on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Central Michigan 6-5. The Spartans jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning but scored just one run the rest of the game. The run came on a solo home run by right fielder Parker Picot in the fourth inning. Shortstop Randy Seymour also finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The Lansing Lugnuts lost their home opener 10-5 against the Great Lakes Loons on Tuesday night. The gametime temperature was just 35 degrees but the Loons bats came out hot, scoring three runs in the first inning and building a 7-1 lead by the top of the fourth. Lugnuts center fielder Rodney Green, Jr. had a good day at the plate, hitting a pair of solo home runs in six at-bats. Lugnuts starting pitcher Jake Garland allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work.
