MASON, Mich. (WLNS) – Mason and Williamston played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night in a de facto CAAC Red championship game. The result gave the Bulldogs the outright conference championship. Coming into play, Mason was 4-0 in league play while Williamston was 3-0-1. So the Hornets needed to win to take home the conference title, but the Bulldogs could secure it with a win or a tie. Mason got on the board first with a goal from Brenna Budzynski late in the first half.

GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WLNS) – The Grand Ledge boys lacrosse team wrapped up its third straight CAAC title last week with an 18-1 win over St. Johns. The Comets have won seven games in a row and are 11-2 overall on the season. “We’ve come into our full potential a little bit [recently], which is a great time to do it toward the end of the season,” said senior attack Tieson Cooper.

EATON RAPIDS, Mich. (WLNS) – After Olivet won the first game of a doubleheader 2-1, Eaton Rapids bounced back to cap off its Senior Night with a 5-4 walk-off win in 10 innings in game two. Senior pitcher/center fielder Matthew Wright delivered the walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth. Olivet had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the tenth when Lalo Aguirre ripped a line drive to third. The ball tipped off the third baseman’s glove and Patrick Priesman raced home with the go-ahead run.

DeWITT, Mich. (WLNS) – Grand Ledge and DeWitt settled for a 1-1 draw on the final night of league play Tuesday, but the result was enough for the Comets to earn the outright CAAC Blue title. The stakes coming into play were that the winner of the game would win the league crown, while the Comets would take home the title in the event of a draw.

AdvertisementJones was one of the most successful and impactful high school coaches in mid-Michigan’s history. Four basketball state championship banners hang in the Everett gymnasium.
