Spring Township police said they arrested a burglary suspect as he tried to flee a home with a with a bag of rare coins that he took from the homeowner’s bedroom late Friday. Mikaell C. Younger, 18, of Philadelphia was committed to Berks County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail to await a hearing following arraignment Saturday before District Judge Carissa L. Johnson in Reading Central Court.

My friend received a call from someone who sounded like Matthew McConaughey. Besides the Texas drawl, there was something else suspicious about the caller’s greeting. “This is a sergeant, Bubby Bubbenmoyer, calling to assess the contacts with a M.L.,” the caller said. “I’m calling from the Berks County Sheriff’s Department. This is regarding a civil matter.”She was instructed to call a number with a 610 area code.

The Berks County coroner’s office is seeking relatives of John E. Halko, 97, formerly of Shillington, who died April 10 in Reading Hospital. Officials have been unable to identify his next of kin. Anyone with information is asked to call the coroner’s office at 610-478-3280.

A former Birdsboro man with a recent criminla conviction is back in Berks County jail after Reading police said he led an officer on a high-speed chase on Route 422 over the weekend while wearing a jacket with the Pagan’s logo. John E. Lutz IV, 34, was jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail after arraignment Saturday night before District Judge Eric J. Taylor in Reading Central Court.
