A Reading man faces home improvement fraud charges after police said he left a city property owner with an incomplete and faulty remodeling project. Yuki R. Turner, 29, of the 1200 block of Church Street was charged by Reading police on May 29 with the fraud count as well as theft by deception. He remained free to await a hearing following arraignment May 29 before District Judge Alvin B. Robinson.

A 21-year-old Virginia man was the victim of the fatal shooting over the weekend in the 1200 block of Oak Lane, Reading police disclosed Tuesday. Melvyn Frazier of Lynchburg was pronounced dead early Sunday by a staff doctor in Reading Hospital. Oak Lane parallels Hampden Boulevard on the foot of Mount Penn. An autopsy was performed Monday, but the results were unavailable. Officers were dispatched to Oak and Lorraine roads about 5 a.m. Sunday for reports of shots fired.

A Kenhorst man who evaded capture during an April 3 manhunt that forced the temporary lockdown of the Alvernia University campus has been captured in Reading, Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said Monday. Axel Caraballo-Morales, 33, was taken into custody late Thursday by city police with assistance from the Berks County Emergency Response Team, Adams said.

A shooting believed to have stemmed from a nearby house party over the weekend has left a man dead, Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said Monday. Reading police were dispatched about 5 a.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of Oak Lane, which parallels Hampden Boulevard on the foot of Mount Penn, for reports of shots fired. The location is about a block from Hampden Park. Officers found a shooting victim, who was deceased. Adams was withholding the victim’s name.
