A driver drank nine pints of beer before crashing his van and seriously injuring one of his passengers. Thomas Doran, 40, pulled into the path of an oncoming car on the A18 near Scunthorpe in February 2023. A woman sitting in the back of the van was flung out on to the road and suffered "extensive head injuries", Humberside Police said. Doran, of Poplar Terrace in Keighley, was found guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and assaulting an emergency worker.

Humberside Police is to recruit 38 new neighbourhood policing officers after receiving £3.2m from the government. Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison said public surveys showed local policing was people's "top priority". "The extra officers will support the Chief Constable's and my own priorities of strengthening our local policing presence further and deepening community engagement with the public and local businesses," he said.

Betty Stracey from Lincoln won the races in the women 85 and over category at the British Masters Athletics event in London. Mrs Stracey said she had been running for about 40 years and was a member of a road running club.
