By 15:00 BST on Wednesday, a peak was reached in Chertsey in Surrey at 26.5C (80F), with temperatures at 25.7C at Wiggonholt in West Sussex and 24.9C at Frittenden in Kent. The highest UK temperature of the year so far (27.5C) was recorded on Wednesday afternoon at St James's Park in central London, with more heat still to come on Thursday.
