SPOTSWOOD – Borough taxpayers are expected to see an increase in the municipal portion of their 2025 tax bill under the proposed budget. Under the proposed plan introduced May 28, a home assessed at the borough average of $259,164 can expect to see a $249.40 annual increase. It does not include the county, school or library taxes, said Mayor Rich O'Brien, who took office in JanuaryA public hearing and final vote is scheduled for the July 14 borough council meeting.

The Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) will implement Aug. 1 an Automatic Side Load (ASL) service for single-stream, curbside recycling. Each participating municipality and all its residents will receive 95-gallon wheeled carts with lids to replace the blue barrels or rectangular carts currently in use before the new service begins.

EAST BRUNSWICK – The Township Council has selected an operator for its new municipal ice arena. The Council approved a resolution at its June 9 meeting authorizing an agreement with Black Bear Corp., doing business as Pro Skate Arena, for the service. “This is a big deal," said Mayor Brad Cohen, adding it's an economic driver to the township. But, he said, the operator will not be getting preference on ice availability. "That goes to the residents themselves," Cohen said.
