Just two years away from its 250th anniversary, the April 13, 1777 Battle of Bound Brook between the Continental Army and British Crown Troops will be marked this weekend with a series of colorful events on both sides of the Raritan River in Bound Brook and South Bound Brook. The highlight of the weekend will be the reenactment of three skirmishes during the battle. The first skirmish will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday by the Old Stone Arch Bridge at the north end of the Queens Bridge in Bound Brook.

FLEMINGTON – The Hunterdon County commissioners have introduced a $122.5 million budget that reduces the county property tax rate by less than 1%. Under the budget introduced on April 1, the county tax rate will sink to its lowest level in 11 years and the county will remain debt-free for the 11th consecutive year. “This year’s budget is something that we can all take great pride," said Commissioner Director John Lanza.

The $25 million project rehabilitated the 120-year-old bridge, extending its lifespan. Work began in January 2024 and encountered a delay due to a deteriorated steel pin. The bridge sees over 12,000 vehicles cross daily. LAMBERTVILLE – The "new" bridge over the Delaware River between downtown Lambertville and New Hope was rededicated April 1 with the launch of the new lighting system and Mummers marching across the span's new walkway.

GREEN BROOK – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will give more than $21.5 million to the Middlesex County Utilities Authority (MCUA) to repair its Green Brook Pumping Station that was heavily damaged during Hurricane Ida in 2021. The FEMA money will pay for 90% of the estimated $23.9 million project. The remainder will be provided by state and local sources.

A North Plainfield man has been sentenced to six months in prison after he admitted to a federal hate crime by breaking into the Center for Islamic Life (CILRU) at Rutgers University in New Brunswick in April 2024 and causing thousands of dollars in damage. Jacob Beacher, 25, was also ordered by District Court Judge Robert Kirsch in Newark to pay $19,345 in restitution and placed on one-year supervised release after he leaves prison.
