Department of Homeland Security agents arrested Dr. Badar Khan Suri, a researcher at Georgetown, outside his home in Rosslyn, Virginia on Monday night, according to reporting by Politico. Khan Suri is an Indian national, and postdoctoral fellow at the Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He was lawfully in the United States through a student visa, according to a university spokesperson.

In September, Anissa Nanavati (SFS ’26) interviewed for an internship with the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) private sector engagement hub. In November, Nanavati received a tentative offer for the job. She was thrilled. “I was very happy, because it basically ticked off all my boxes on something that I wanted to do, and also actually really gave me the opportunity to help people,” Nanavati said.

Hundreds of transgender activists and allies rallied outside the Supreme Court on Dec. 4 as justices heard arguments in U.S. v. Skrmetti, a case challenging Tennessee’s law banning gender-affirming care for minors. The rally, titled “Freedom to Be Ourselves,” was hosted by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Lambda Legal, two of the organizations that filed the case against the state of Tennessee, and its Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti.

John J. After nearly five years of legal and zoning battles, Call Your Mother, the popular “Jew-ish” deli on the corner of 34th and O, will keep baking. In a Nov. 13 meeting, the D.C. Several hundred protesters gathered on the streets of D.C. in response to President Donald Trump’s reelection, on Nov. 9. The “Time to Resist” rally came only a week after 10,000 people assembled for another Women’s March in anticipation of the election. On Sept. 28, people from D.C. and around the world gathered to honor their countries and cultures in a show of unity—not at the United Nations General Assembly, but for an even greater cause: cementing the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest pupusa. Nearly 100 pupuseros, or pupusa chefs, banded together to make the traditional El Salvadoran and Honduran dish, successfully breaking the world record. At Fiesta D.C., the district’s Hispanic heritage festival, the pupusa measured at 20.2 ft.
