When Sophia Villanueva committed to the University of Minnesota Duluth in March of 2025, many Bulldog fans likely didn’t bat an eye at recruiting a goaltender who is listed as being from Appleton, Wisconsin, considering that a large portion of the roster is typically made up of skaters from the MN/WI area. In fact, there were seven Minnesotans on the UMD squad in 2024-25 (eight if you count Nina Steigauf who appeared in two games at the start of the season) and two Wisconsinites.

Towards the end of the season with South Shore, the 6-foot-2 forward committed to play Division I hockey at Sacred Heart University and he then signed a tender to play with the New Jersey Titans of the NAHL for the 2023-24 season as well. Not all colleges scout the NCDC, but the Sacred Heart staff being located on the East Coast and not too far from the South Shore organization had been watching Hillier and were very interested in recruiting him to their squad.

Tess, originally born in Chicago, moved to Texas at a young age and grew up in the Dallas area. With a father who played hockey and a mother who did figure skating, it only seemed natural for Saxton to try the sport at some point for himself. He played youth hockey in Dallas for a while but his career soon took him out of state to play two seasons of triple-A hockey for Seacoast Performance Academy in New Hampshire.

During Lefere’s first few games in the NAHL last fall, he was off to a pretty hot start by posting 8 points in 8 games but after that he hit a bit of a lull until he recently started to get hot again in February/March. “Start of the year, the showcase, the first couple weeks, I was pretty good, I was feeling good … middle of the year, sort of wasn’t necessarily playing bad but wasn’t getting the results I wanted,” he said. “Now, the last couple of weeks, it’s been going better.
