The completion date for a £22.8m road upgrade in East Renfrewshire has been delayed for a second time for at least a year. Aurs Road has been under renovation since January 2024 and was initially set to take 12 months to complete, but it will not be completed until the spring of next year. It was described as an “ambitious” and “transformative” upgrade to the link between Barrhead and Newton Mearns, but now local businesses are calling for compensation after being hit with eight-mile diversions.

The multi-million pound renovation of a key road in East Renfrewshire has been delayed for the second time. Aurs Road will now be shut until spring 2026 – more than twice as long as developers initially hoped. The plan is to upgrade the single carriageway and create a new promenade for cycling and walking. A mum from North Lanarkshire has branded the council’s assessment system for children with additional support needs as “unacceptable”. Jill O’Hara wants to see her daughter Ruby attend a specialist additional support needs (ASN) high school due to her complex learning difficulties. However, the local authority’s review system has assessed her as suitable for mainstream high school. Ruby, 11, has autism and has been assessed by an educational psychologist has having a developmental delay.

The mum of a primary seven pupil with autism is fighting to have her placed in a specialist additional support needs school in North Lanarkshire, after the local authority rejected her application. Ruby O’Hara has complex learning difficulties and her mum Jill says she’ll suffer if she’s placed in a mainstream high school.
