A woman had to be airlifted from a mountain in Argyll after a serious fall, and a man was rescued from a Highland mountain after breaking his ankle. Oban Mountain Rescue Team were called to Ben Cruachan on Saturday after an injured woman alerted passing walkers to her injury. An off-duty policeman and a paramedic helped her before volunteers airlifted the woman from the hill and to hospital. HM Coastguard helicopter R199 was tasked with the airlift as she was treated on the peak.

The death of a man who was struck by a tram in Edinburgh in 2018 could have been avoided if reasonable precautions had been taken by the tram operator, a Sheriff has ruled. Bus driver Carlos Hernan Correa Palacio, 53, suffered a fatal head injury when he was struck by Tram 260 in the Saughton area of the capital at about 12.10pm on September 11.

Tributes have been paid to a Scottish mum who died after falling from a horse she had recently bought. Louise Goudman suffered a serious head injury after falling from her horse Bobby on May 2. The 40-year-old never regained consciousness after the fall and died in hospital a week before her 41st birthday. Her partner, Malcolm Cameron, said she died “doing something that she loved” and “wouldn’t have blamed her young horse” for the fall.

Teachers in Scotland are seeking clarity from the Scottish Government over guidance on single-sex spaces. The Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) says ministers must “urgently” publish revised guidance to give teachers clarity. The union is calling for guidance on supporting transgender pupils from 2021 to be withdrawn following the landmark ruling by the Supreme Court over the definition of a woman.

Dozens of jobs have been lost at a Scottish hospital pipeline firm after the company collapsed. Hospital Pipeline Installations Limited (HPI) was placed into administration on May 9 and has ceased trading with immediate effect. The firm, which has its headquarters in Paisley and was founded in 1984, and designs and installs medical, dental, lab and industrial gas pipelines.
