CAMDENTON, Mo. — A razor-thin margin in the Camdenton R-III School Board election has prompted preparations for a possible recount, Camden County Clerk Rowland Todd confirmed Thursday. Incumbent Eric Walters and Debra Wright were separated by just one vote in the race for the second of two available board seats April 8. While Jacob Neusche was the top vote-getter, the second seat initially went to Walters — but that could change with a court-ordered recount.

Despite an ongoing lawsuit over alleged coal ash contamination near Montrose, Missouri, water quality specialists say there’s no indication that Truman Lake or the Lake of the Ozarks has been affected. The lawsuit, filed by William and Sue Steward, accuses several companies of mishandling fly ash, a hazardous byproduct of coal-burning power plants, at a former Evergy power plant site. The Stewards claim the material has spread onto their property, contaminating soil and water.

The Lake of the Ozarks is no stranger to oddities, but one resident wasn’t expecting to find a massive ice box bobbing in the water near her home in Camdenton last week. Michelle Meyer took to Facebook March 25, sharing some interesting photos with the caption: "Look what the wind drug in!!!"There on the shore was an Arctic Glacier from a nearby gas dock. "Neighbor asked what kind of party we were having," she added.
