Castle Creek Biosciences has secured $75 million in financing to support a Phase 3 trial testing its gene therapy to promote wound healing in people with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB). The royalty financing agreement for Castle Creek‘s treatment, D-Fi, was led by Ligand Pharmaceuticals, which made a $50 million investment. Ligand said the investors will get “a high single-digit royalty” on worldwide sales of the treatment if it is ultimately brought to market.

PAH is marked by high blood pressure in the vessels that carry blood through the lungs.

People with Cushing’s syndrome are at a high risk of glaucoma — an eye condition in which the optic nerve that connects the eye and brain becomes damaged, potentially leading to vision loss — according to a new study that found the risk for Cushing’s patients is 74% greater than that of the general population. Further, the clinical manifestation of glaucoma — the age at onset — occurred earlier among people with Cushing’s, regardless of whether or not they were in remission.

Cells derived from people with systemic sclerosis (SSc) had widespread DNA mutations compared with healthy cells, which may explain the higher risk of cancer in this patient population, according to a study. Changes included mutational patterns found solely in the genomes of certain cancers, as well as changes in one or two DNA building blocks, insertions and deletions of DNA segments, and alterations in whole chromosomes.
