EAST LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — If you’ve noticed your “class” starting to sound more like “clahss,” you’re not alone — and researchers at Michigan State University are listening. The team has been tracking how language is changing across the state through a project, called MI Diaries. They invite Michiganders to record weekly voice memos about their lives. WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — At Godfrey Lee Elementary, a group of fifth graders are proving that even leftovers can have a purpose, especially with a little help from worms. This year the school brought back student council for the first time since the pandemic. And when teachers asked if the 12 council members wanted to take on a composting project, the answer was immediate. “It was really the kids,” said fifth grade teacher Tatianna Spencer.

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - When Hendrik returned to his third-grade classroom at Pine Ridge Elementary in Cascade Township this January, he didn't say much - and he didn't need to. After being diagnosed with leukemia in October, Hendrik had missed nearly three months of school. He's naturally quiet, but the support from his classmates, neighbors and teacher spoke volumes. That support started with a 5-year-old family friend.
