The power of the lacrosse community was on display Saturday when the 18th-ranked Dartmouth men’s lacrosse team hosted No. 4 Princeton. On the field, it proved to be a tremendous game — with the Tigers winning a tight 11-8 final. Off the field, the game meant more; it was an Autism Awareness game, and day, as the Dartmouth women also took part for their game against Cornell. The cause is especially meaningful for Dartmouth men’s head coach Sean Kirwan.

Based upon RPI and Strength of Schedule, I wasn’t surprised at the top four (Princeton, Maryland, Notre Dame and North Carolina), but it was something to see the nation’s No. 1 team, Cornell, as IL’s seventh best resume and the current third-ranked team, Ohio State, on the outside of the bubble.

There were big, key results, on Saturday, but it lacked the chaotic madness of last week. No. 1 Cornell cruised against Penn, Notre Dame proved why it is the back-to-back defending champion, and Michigan is amid its annual late-season renaissance. Check out the full IL Scoreboard.

The Minutemen earned a tough, blue-collar A-10 win on the road Saturday against No. 16 Saint Joseph’s, 11-9.  UMass face-off specialist TJ Casey won 14-of-17 face-offs, freshman goalie Owen Salanger was huge down the stretch and made 13 saves, and it took everyone in a balanced and physical win at unfriendly Hawk Hill. FINAL: @UMassMLacrosse 11, @SJUHawks_MLax 10 A hard-fought, blue-collar win for UMass.

(Inside Lacrosse Photo: Shaffer Broughton)CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — As a Syracuse defender was being treated on the field for a mild injury early in the fourth quarter, starting midfielder Sam English figured it was as good a time as any to put the aluminum bench on his team’s sideline to use. On a sunny, 80-degree day, before a crowd of 3,500, English sat down for a few minutes. It was about the only time all game he stopped moving.
