TOPICS:Cold weatherWarm weatherEasterSunshineTemperaturesRainWeekendCloudsWe're going to start Thursday morning with some pretty cold weather across the region. The lows have dropped to the 30s with some spots near freezing. Hopefully you've protected your early season plants! Thursday will be near 70 in the afternoon, with more of the same sunshine and fantastic weather. We're not as cold tonight with some extra clouds developing and a breeze out of the south picking up.

TOPICS:AuroraNorthern statesGeomagnetic stormVirginiaLight pollutionRadio communicationsGPS navigationSky watchingSolar forecasters are expecting a geomagnetic storm tonight that will help kick up the aurora in some northern U.S. states. Unfortunately for us in the Commonwealth, it's unlikely this will spread far enough south for us. This storm will be peaking as the sun sets, which likely means it's going to be too bright outside for us to see anything.

TOPICS:WednesdaySunnyFrostyTemperaturesBreezyWind gustsBlue RidgeWeekendWednesday may be the coolest day of the week, as sunny skies continue throughout the week. The highs drop to mid 60s Wednesday and it's still going to be breezy too. We may have a few wind gusts around 25-30 mph today. We could get down to the low 30s overnight, and some spots will deal with some frost. This won't be a widespread issue, but near the Blue Ridge you should especially keep it in mind.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — It's not going to heat up anytime soon, with showers still falling throughout Friday and for the first half of Saturday. Friday is our rainiest day, and we could see upwards of 1-2" of rain by the time this system is done. This afternoon, the showers are the heaviest, but will continue into the evening too. The low will be swinging up the coastline tonight, with isolated showers still lingering throughout the night.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — We'll get back to the 50s on Thursday, with showers starting to return to the forecast. These showers are developing as we go into the afternoon and evening. Once the rain starts, we could see rain continue all the way into the weekend. We'll likely only see a quarter inch of rain tonight, but there's plenty more on the way over the next few days. Showers arrive this afternoon.
