Former Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Cain Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison for shooting a person while trying to target an accused child molester, The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office said. Velasquez tried to shoot 46-year-old Harry Goularte, who is facing felony child molestation charges, but missed and struck an innocent person, according to prosecutors.

The former director of a San Francisco nonprofit who went on to lead the city’s Human Rights Commission has been accused of misusing her position and city funds in a blistering series of allegations by the city attorney’s office. City Attorney David Chiu said he was suspending the nonprofit organization, Collective Impact, and initiating debarment proceedings against it that would ban it from receiving city grants for five years.

Drivers in San Francisco will soon be issued speeding tickets for infractions captured by automatic cameras. The city launched its automated speed cameras on Thursday by activating 12 of its cameras, with a 60-day introductory phase that will result in warnings without fees attached. The automated cameras work by reading the rear license plate of a vehicle. They do not have facial recognition technology, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

A chimpanzee at San Francisco Zoo and Gardens who was said to be one of the oldest in the United States died this week at the age of 55. The chimpanzee, named Maggie, was diagnosed with lymphoma and had been in palliative care for the last few months. She was the fifth oldest chimp in the country, according to a news release sent Wednesday from the zoo.
