Two Welsh chip shops have been named in the top 10 chippies in the UK. Shipdeck in Caerphilly and Ynys Mon's Finney's have both made the shortlist to be named as top of the crops for the Field to Frier category for the National Fish and Chip Awards 2024. Shipdeck made the shortlist last year as well so WalesOnline gave it a try to see what all the fuss was about.

A former Bath City footballer has been jailed for playing a key role in selling large amounts of cocaine. Kaid Mohamed was one of seven men who were involved in the organised crime gang which was jailed for a total of 47 years last month. Mohamed, 39, made 66 appearances for Bath over two separate spells with the club. He also represented Weston-super-Mare AFC on three occasions in the 2016-2017 season.

Why would anyone not want to live in Wales? But it's not often an entire village tries to change location. But that happened in Audlem, in Cheshire, England, which is about nine miles from the Welsh border. In 2008, they had a vote to decide if they should move from England to Wales. The poll was run on local website Audlem Online by resident Bob Cartwright, reports North Wales Live. Its purpose was to "make a very serious point" in a "humorous way".

Places like Liverpool and Hereford were once hotbeds of Welsh tradition but sadly not so much in the modern age, with once-strong Welsh identities and communities diluted over the years. But one place which bucks this trend is the Shropshire town of Oswestry. Just a few miles over the border, the town still has Welsh churches, a thriving Welsh language bookshop and the only Cylch Meithrin (Welsh language nursery) outside Wales.

The Welsh language is a treasured part of our culture, past and future. After years of decline there are concerted efforts by policy makers to secure the long term future of Cymraeg. There are still threats such as the prominence of second homes in Welsh speaking heartlands and young people moving out of Wales for work but there are also reasons to hope. While the efforts are concentrated in Wales there are still a few places in the UK outside of Cymru where Welsh is still thriving.

A woman has died following a crash on a major Welsh road. The incident happened on Saturday night on the A5 in Denbighshire and saw two people taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The crash involved one car and happened on the eastbound lane of the road in Glyndyfrdwy, between Corwen and Chirk. Emergency services were called to the scene near the Berwyn Arms pub and the two casualties were taken to separate hospitals.

Armed police and trained negotiators were called to a "disturbance" in a rural Welsh village. Firefighters and paramedics also attended as the incident unfolded in Tanygrisiau, Gwynedd, at around 1am on Wednesday (August 16). A 21-year-old man was arrested after the incident, which took place in the Hafan Deg area of the village. North Wales Police said: "A man has been arrested following an incident in the Hafan Deg area of Tanygrisau, Gwynedd.
