1. Introduction 1.1. Research BackgroundIn the context of the carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategy, the large-scale development and utilization of renewable energy (RE) have become crucial measures for transforming China’s energy structure. Through the UHV DC grid, substantial RE can be transmitted to load centers in East and South China.

eLife assessment This is an important biophysical study combining native mass spectrometry with mutant cycles to estimate the thermodynamic components of lipid A binding to the ABC transporter MsbA. Solid evidence supports the binding energies for lipid-protein interactions to MsbA using this approach, which could be later applied to other membrane proteins in general.

Native mass spectrometry of proteoliposomes containing integral and peripheral membrane proteins† Cellular membranes are critical to the function of membrane proteins, whether they are associated (peripheral) or embedded (integral) within the bilayer. While detergents have contributed to our understanding of membrane protein structure and function, there remains challenges in characterizing protein–lipid interactions within the context of an intact membrane.
