The Bush, a self-appointed "dyke bar for queers" in Bushwick, is where you’ll find your next IRL romance. It’s a fairly barebones space with a narrow bar in front and a dance floor in the back, but the wash of purple light, constellation of disco balls, and cocktails with names like “ILYSFM” help set the mood. Keep an eye on their social media and make plans to meet up with that missed connection at one of The Bush’s mixers. You can count the number of “official” lesbian bars in NYC on one hand.

Stonewall Inn feels historic right when you walk in. That’s due, in part, to the fact Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera resisted a police raid here, effectively launching the gay rights movement in 1969. But also because they probably haven’t renovated in several decades. There’s a long, divey bar on the ground floor, and upstairs you’ll find a small stage for drag shows.

Prado in Mouraria is great for a special occasion dinner, but for something a little lower stakes, head to their wine bar on the next corner. The selection for everything—food, wine, tables—is smaller, but no less fantastic. Come here solo or with a date (there’s one communal table for small groups, but space is tight) and don’t skip the sourdough to start, especially if you have your eyes on the mussels—they’re steeped in a sauce that shouldn’t go to waste.

This Greek bistro in Estrela, from the Pomme Eatery team, is perfect for a lunch filled with creamy tzatziki, large fresh salads, perfectly roasted pita, and natural wine. There’s a huge menu with plenty of classic hits that’ll take you more than a few visits to make your way through, though the most efficient way to try a few things at once is the create-a-combo section: two half orders of things like dolmades, spanakotiropita, moussaka, keftedes, and pastichio.

The team behind Ofício describes it as an “atypical tasca,” and while that’s not inaccurate, a chefy small plates spot would be just as apt. Sure, the cabbage starter with pesto and stracciatella might only be two leaves, but they’re two very good ones. You’ll want to book a spot for dinner in the main dining room, not the squiggly bar upfront—it’s designed more for aesthetics than utility, and the seats are so low you’ll feel like you’re sitting on the floor.
