    The SIJHL playoffs resume tonight with the lower seed of the two teams playing host. The Kam River Fighting Walleye are in Ironwood, Michigan to play the Lumberjacks, leading that series 2-0. The other two series are tied at 1-1. The Sioux Lookout Bombers are in Red Lake to take on the Miners and the Fort Frances Lakers host the Thunder Bay North Stars. The Dryden GM Ice Dogs have a bye in the first round for finishing first during the regular season.

    The Lake of the Woods Control Board says it may start reducing outflow through the Norman Dam to the Winnipeg River sometime next week. With the hot weather, and little rain, water levels continue to go down. Over the past week, the lake went down another 2 centimeters and they are expected to drop another 3 to 6 centimeters in the next seven days. Lake of the Woods still remains high for this time of year and the Norman Dam remains fully open to help bring the water levels down on the lake.

    The Ministry of Natural Resources is reporting several new forest fires in northwestern Ontario. Six were confirmed on Tuesday, bringing to 16, the number of active wildfiresMost posing no problems and are being observed. Three are in the Red Lake fire district, two in the Sioux Lookout region and one near Thunder Bay, a small island fire on Loch Lomond. Most of the fires are not posing any threat to property or people and are simply being monitored.

    After months of increasing, water levels on Lake of the Woods area starting to go down. Inflows into the lake have stabilized and there has been moderate rainfall over the past week. As a result, the lake has gone down two centimeters and as expected to drop another 2 to 4 centimeters in the next seven days. Lake of the Woods Control Board says water levels are still at the 80 percentile for this time of year.

    A new survey shows that Canadians feel there is a lack of support when it comes to grieving. Almost four thousand people took part the survey by the Canadian Grief Alliance. Spokesperson Paul Adams says there are a couple things that stand out for him. “The first one was about half the people who responded to our survey said that their grief was not supported or not well supported, that they didn’t feel adequately supported by those around them,” Adams said in a recent interview.
