PORTLAND, Oregon — One year after a fatal shooting outside a Portland strip club, the trial of the accused gunman, 32-year-old Damariea Harris, is underway. Harris faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder. The shooting occurred outside The Venue Gentlemen’s Club in the Hazelwood neighborhood, just east of Interstate 205. Surveillance cameras captured footage of the incident, in which one man was killed and another seriously injured.

PORTLAND, Oregon — An ordinance that would ban the use of artificial intelligence to set rental rates in Portland passed out of a city council committee Tuesday afternoon.  The ordinance, put forth by District 3 Councilor Angelita Morillo, is meant to combat what she described as high-tech price fixing. Morillo says the ordinance is aimed at large rental companies to keep them from using AI to generate "algorithmic pricing," which can drive up rents across the board.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A group of mostly 11th grade students at Lincoln High School are bridging generations through handwritten letters, forging connections with local seniors — many of whom have memory loss. What started as one student’s idea has quickly grown into a thriving club with dozens of participants. Henry Carpenter, a Lincoln High School junior, launched the Memory Care Connections pen pal club after volunteering at Emerson House, a memory care facility in Southeast Portland.

TALENT, Ore. — A nonprofit dedicated to replanting trees in wildfire-affected areas has lost federal grant funding, jeopardizing its efforts to restore urban forests in southern Oregon communities still recovering from devastating wildfires. Our Community Forestry, based in Talent — the epicenter of the 2020 wildfires — had been using $600,000 federal in grants to clear out damaged trees and replant climate-resilient trees.
