VANCOUVER, Wash. — With summer on the horizon and Independence Day approaching, Clark County councilors heard a call this week to ban fireworks in unincorporated parts of the county. The discussion came during a presentation from Clark County Fire Marshal Donna Goddard, who was joined by Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli. Vancouver currently prohibits fireworks within city limits, and Scarpelli urged the county to follow suit.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Playhouse is spearheading a statewide crowdfunding campaign after the theater lost a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) a casualty of recently announced federal cuts to arts funding under the Trump administration. The news came just one day before opening night of the theater’s production of Joe Turner's Come and Gone, leaving Portland Playhouse scrambling to make up the lost funds.
