    INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Decatur Township firefighter died following an off-duty motorcycle crash. Battalion Chief Michale Turner was a 22-year veteran of the Decatur Civil Township Fire Department (DTFD) at the time of his death. DTFD says Turner was surrounded by family and friends when he passed. “Chief Turner was very passionate about the Decatur Township Fire Department, as well as the training of future firefighters and EMS professionals,” DTFD Chief Brandon Wood wrote on social media.

    CHESTERTON, Ind. (WISH) – One-way rides on the South Shore Line, the interurban commuter rail connecting South Bend to Chicago, will cost more. The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), which operates the South Shore Line, asked its Board of Trustees to increase base-fare rates on one-way tickets by 10% during its latest meeting.

    INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Gov. Mike Braun on Wednesday highlighted a pair of public safety laws in a ceremonial bill-signing. Senate Enrolled Act 324, which will take effect July 1, will stop charitable bail groups from paying bail for anyone accused of violent crimes or is a repeat violent arrestee. The law also will target domestic violence cases.

    INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Memorial Day will shut down many services, including mail delivery. The U.S. Postal Service will be closed Monday in honor of Memorial Day. It stops delivery for 11 holidays throughout the year, with the next being Juneteenth on July 19. Both UPS and FedEx will also suspend pickup and delivery for the holiday. Though UPS Express Critical and FedEx Custom Critical will continue operating. U.S. stock markets and most banks will also be closed.
