INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Benjamin Ritchie, the death row inmate who killed Beech Grove Police Officer Bill Toney, is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to stay his execution. His lawyers filed a petition this week arguing Ritchie’s death by lethal injection on May 20 needs to wait until there’s time to consider whether brain damage contributed to his crimes. On Sept. 29, 2000, Ritchie and two others stole a van. It led to a police chase that ultimately ended with Ritchie fatally shooting Toney.

Following a $2.4 billion revenue shortfall, the Republican-led Indiana legislature cut more than $7 million meant to help fund 17 locally managed public TV and radio stations over the next two years. INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A cornerstone of the Indianapolis Black community, which offered safe haven to women and girls for 30 years, is now honored with a historical marker on the grounds of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. The Phyllis Wheatley Young Women’s Christian Association building, built in 1929, provided the Black community with a space to meet, attend classes, and enjoy recreation safely in a segregated city. It was across the street from St. Philip’s current location.
