Syracuse, N.Y. — A fire inside a one-and-a-half-story home in Syracuse was quickly extinguished by firefighters Saturday night. Fire and smoke were seen coming out of windows and openings of the home at 604 W. Ostrander Ave. as firefighters arrived at about 8:35 p.m., according to Capt. Phillip Vogt, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Fire Department. Firefighters entered the wood-frame single-family house from its rear door and found the fire in the kitchen, he said.

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse police are investigating the death of man who was found unconscious inside a Syracuse pub early Saturday morning. Police responded to Guilfoil’s Irish Pub at 501 Burnet Ave. at about 12:34 a.m. for a man who was unconscious, according to Sgt. Thomas Blake, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Police Department. When police arrived, they found an unresponsive man in his 60s receiving emergency medical care. The man was not breathing, according to Blake.

Salina, N.Y. — A woman was knocked unconscious after being thrown from a motorcycle Friday afternoon during a collision with a pickup truck in Salina, state police said. After the initial collision, Rebecca Woodcock, 23, of Syracuse, was thrown into a stopped 2018 Dodge SUV. She was rushed to Upstate University Hospital after the 3 p.m. crash at Factory and LeMoyne avenues, near the Thruway. State police did not have an update on Woodcock’s condition Friday night.

Rome, N.Y. — A fire in a Rome barn Thursday morning killed two horses and eight calves that were trapped inside, deputies said. The fire was first spotted around 9:35 a.m. by people driving by the barn at7495 Cemetery Road in Rome, according to a news release from Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived, the barn was engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire.

Syracuse, N.Y. — WhenFuje Alam Bin Abdul Rahman entered his basement on a Tuesday afternoon last June, a sparking wire caught his eye. He also heard a hissing noise near some old, unused appliances. He’d gone down into the basement looking for children. His five kids and four others, part of a visiting family, had spent the day celebrating one of Islam’s holiest holidays. Alam thought he heard some of them playing down there.
