ConclusionThe parallels and intricate link between metabolic disorders and IBD have emerged over the last decade by experimental and clinical studies alike. Current guidelines recommend treatment of obesity and metabolic disorders in patients with IBD as reported for patients without IBD. Many studies raise important questions for the future (box 3).
