Lumen Technologies said it has reached a deal to sell its consumer fiber business to AT&T for $5.75 billion, as the Monroe-based company shifts its business toward AI. The all-cash deal was announced Wednesday after the markets closed. The acquisition gives AT&T 1 million more fiber customers and expands its presence in major markets such as Denver, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Seattle.

Southern Glazer's, the largest wine and spirits distributor in the country, has opened a new distribution center in Geismar. About 120 people work at the 375,000-square foot distribution center at 6602 Industrial Drive. It consolidated operations at Southern Glazer's Lafayette and St. Rose distribution centers into one location that will service the entire state.

The first rebranded Aldi store in metro Baton Rouge opened in Prairieville Thursday as the fast-growing supermarket chain continued to increase its presence in the area. Customers stared lining up outside of the former Winn-Dixie at 3:30 a.m. for free gift cards and bags, said Heather Moore, regional vice president. Two hundred fifty people were in line by the time the store opened at 9 a.m., Moore said.
