Voters approved a total of $45 million through Measure K in 2020.

Smith, 78, was working as OUSD’s director of Special Projects and served on the leadership team, just two of her roles in education, including more than 50 years as an elementary and high school teacher, principal and administrator.

"Options for tenant protection measures" will be before Ventura City Council on Tuesday, April 8 following Council's direction last year to conduct public workshops on the topic. City staff held three in-person and two virtual meetings last fall, and presented public input from those meetings to the Ventura Planning Commission in February. A final meeting of the Housing and Homelessness Subcommittee was held last month.

It unanimously adopted a 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program, comprising 87 projects, ranging from sidewalk repairs and street resurfacing to a storm drain and wastewater repairs. In her motion to approve the Capital Improvement Program, Mayor Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios included the addition of Main Street bollards.

Hundreds of Venturans from all sides of the political spectrum overflowed Ventura City Council chambers March 18 to debate a policy that would, in essence, make Ventura a sanctuary city. In the end, the council voted unanimously on a motion by Councilmember Ryyn Schumacher directing city staff to work with him and Councilmember Liz Campos, who introduced the policy, to explore options and return with a revision before the end of April.
