Period,” Brenda VanLengen, a women’s basketball announcer for ESPN, said. When VanLengen moved to Kansas City 30 years ago, she met True — who had co-founded the fledgling Women’s Intersports Network, or WIN for KC, in 1994.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Independence is a town rich with history — and voters are going to be asked to preserve some of it in next week’s municipal election. Residents will see three bond questions on the ballot April 8 — including Question 3, which would authorize $12 million in bonds for maintenance of historic buildings like Vaile Mansion and upgrades at the city-owned athletic complex.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Five bridges across Independence are currently closed after being deemed unsafe and several others need imminent repairs, or possible replacement, before meeting the same fate, including one that’s already partially closed. City officials say the existing bridge replacement program is underfunded and would take 100 years to catch up with the financing needed to address that infrastructure need, so they are asking voters to approve a bond issue to pay for the repairs.
