As Zozobra's story developed through the years, many different elements went into the burning. Will Shuster felt he needed something more than just watching Old Man Gloom burn. He went to Jacques Cartier, a famous ballet dancer from New York who moved to Tesuque, New Mexico, to ask him to dance in front of Zozobra as he burned. Cartier declined Shuster's request. Shuster invites Cartier to the construction and tells Cartier he has the opportunity to create and what the roles are.
