DIXON — Charlie Massey walked around the antique Caterpillar exhibit like he was greeting old friends. "My dad used to buy up old farm equipment. He'd fix them up and resold them at the ranch. FAIRFIELD — The remains of a 500-year-old Native American were properly interred after sheriff's Deputy Jessica Dew helped solve part of the mystery. The remains were found in 1970 in a shed in Dixon. The name is still unknown, but due to the efforts of Dew, with the Coroner's Office, and with the help of a dedicated team of forensic and investigative professionals, the county was able to determine the person was Native American, likely part of a Patwin tribe, and more than 500 years old.

BENICIA — The Benicia Fire Department extinguished a Monday structure fire at the Benicia Valero Refinery, but few details about the blaze are available. Fire crews remained at the scene for hours to mop up and to monitor the situation, Della Olm, spokeswoman for the Fire Department said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Information on exactly which structures were involved, and what functions of the refinery may have been impacted were not immediately available.
Consulting contract for Putah Creek restoration project goes before SCWA board

VACAVILLE — The Solano County Water Agency is looking to restore about a mile of Putah Creek as part of the Nishikawa Restoration Project. "Basically it's a restoration project on Putah Creek, up near Pedrick Road, in the UC Davis Riparian Preserve," Alex Rabidoux, assistant general manager of SCWA. "It's degrading and not very good habitat," said Rabidoux, adding the goal of the project is to turn that stretch of creek into "prime habitat for salmon" and other species.

VACAVILLE — Students and staff at Buckingham Collegiate Charter Academy were evacuated Friday morning after nine individuals – six adults and three students – began feeling light-headed. Vacaville Fire personnel reported Friday afternoon that no toxic gasses or other source was found to explain the illnesses. The school was cleared for use. Vacaville Police Lt. Chris Lechuga said that all nine individuals were in the same area of the school when they started to have symptoms.
