Cabaldon denies being part of shipbuilding working group

FAIRFIELD — Another elected representative has denied being part of Assemblywoman Lori Wilson's working group to foster "shipbuilding and maritime opportunities" in Solano County. State Sen. Christopher Cabaldon, D-Yolo, said through his staff that he has not even been asked to participate. But even if he had, the senator indicated he has not taken a position on California Forever's concept of a shipbuilding port near Collinsville.

FAIRFIELD — Solano County does not have enough rental housing stock, nor enough landlord participation to roll out a full Section 8 voucher plan. The Board of Supervisors, sitting as Solano County Housing Authority Board of Directors on Tuesday, were told that there are 92 housing choice vouchers that are not in use, and that the wait list for those vouchers is closed.
Report: Vacaville Fire Department responds to 13,400 calls

VACAVILLE – The city department's annual report shows that its crews, in 2024, responded to more than 13,400 calls – 74% of which were for medical services. The department also opened a new, albeit temporary firehouse in November. Station 76 serves the Lagoon Valley area. A permanent structure will be built in the coming years. "The temporary station, staffed by a crew of three, will eventually transition to a permanent facility once the developer completes the station’s construction.
California Forever buoyed by White House push for shipbuilding

Protesters try to block Travis AFB traffic; 12 arrested

FAIRFIELD – Twelve protesters at the People's Arms Embargo event Wednesday at Travis Air Force Base were arrested. "Activists from across Northern California (converged) ... at Travis Air Force Base, to demand that Travis personnel cease and desist in transporting U.S. weapons to Israel, during Israel's ongoing illegal genocide, that has now killed over 50,000 Palestinians," the group said in a statement leading up to the protest.
Vallejo moving forward with plan for Sheriff's Office to help police

VALLEJO – The City Council late Tuesday night voted 7-0 to set aside $11.2 million to have the Solano County Sheriff's Office patrol half the city. Sheriff Tom Ferrara said Wednesday at a Victims Rights event that he plans to go to the Board of Supervisors on May 6 to get support to begin negotiations with the city. He said a contract will have to be completed no later than August in order to be ready for the start of 2026.
Yocha Dehe donates $1 million more to Solano County

FAIRFIELD – The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation has donated another $1 million toward Solano County Health & Social Services programs – bringing its total over eight years to $8.5 million. The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the intergovernmental agreement that allows the gift. It also approved an appropriations transfer recognizing the unanticipated revenue.
Supervisors raise vehicle fees for fingerprinting needs

FAIRFIELD – The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday doubled the vehicle registration fees used to support fingerprinting operations in the Sheriff's Office. Starting Oct. 1, every vehicle will be charged $2 instead of $1, and commercial vehicles 10,000 pounds or more will pay $4 instead of $2. No one from the public spoke at the public hearing. However, board Chairman Mitch Mashburn related a story from his days in the Corrections Division of the Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff has offered Vallejo deputies to help with half the city

VALLEJO – Solano County Sheriff Tom Ferrara has offered to cover 12-hour shifts, seven-days-a-week for half the city. The cost – including 17 personnel, cars and other equipment – would be $11 million for 2026. Exactly what part of the city would come under Sheriff's Office patrols was not immediately clear,The workforce would include 14 deputies, two sergeants and on lieutenant.
