A primary school that gives pupils maths A-level questions to tackle has got two of its pupils scholarships at a top private school. New school Galleywall Primary, City of London Academy, in Bermondsey has stretched its top 11 year old pupils by giving them questions normally sat by 18 year olds. But it has paid off as Hriday Doshi, 11, and Finley Doran, 11, have both been offered places at City of London Boys School where fees are up to £22,000 per year.

A school in East London, in one of Britain's most deprived areas, is the most consistently high achieving - despite only doing a four-and-a-half day week. Forest Gate Community School is the only non-selective comprehensive in the country to have made the top 50 schools for GCSE results five years in a row. Leaders say their success is built on recruiting top teachers who reflect the ethically and socially diverse community they serve.
