Call it blind luck. Or fate. Or divine intervention. Whatever was at work, it’s amazing that no one was seriously injured the night of March 28 when a Ford Explorer roared down San Andres Street on Santa Barbara’s Westside. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the vehicle blew through a stop sign at the T intersection with Canon Perdido Street, jumped the curb, sidewalk and a low protective wall, and was launched deep into a residential duplex on the far side of the road.
Major Injuries Reported in Collision on Modoc Road Near Santa Barbara

Major injuries were reported Thursday afternoon in a collision on Modoc Road near Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 12:30 p.m. to the crash near Via Senda involving a sedan and an SUV, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck. A man with critical injuries had to be extricated from the wreckage, and was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Local law enforcement arrested five people in Goleta on suspicion of being involved in a residential burglary ring, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department. Acting on a tip from an Orange County law enforcement agency, detectives from the Police Department and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office located the suspects on Friday, police Sgt. Bryan Kerr said.
Several Residents Displaced by Structure Fire in Lompoc

Several people were displaced by an apartment fire early Saturday in Lompoc. Firefighters were dispatched at about 2:15 a.m. to the fire on the 1300 block of North L Street, according to Battalion Chief Cody Lee of the Lompoc Fire Department. “First arriving units advised heavy smoke and fire coming from a first floor apartment with extension to the second floor,” Lee said.
Body Discovered Near Train Tracks and Apartment Complex in Goleta

A body was found Tuesday afternoon near the railroad tracks in Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s deputies, county firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched shortly after 3 p.m. to where the remains were found, sheriff’s Public Information Officer Raquel Zick told Noozhawk. The body was located between the Cortona Point apartments and the train tracks, just east of Storke Road, Zick said. “The death is not train related,” Zick said.
Suspect Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Man in Neck with Pen

A 37-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly stabbed someone with a pen at the PATH homeless shelter in Santa Barbara. Officers were dispatched at about 11:30 a.m. to the shelter at 816 Cacique St. on a report of a stabbing, according to Sgt. Bryan Kerr of the Santa Barbara Police Department. “When officers arrived, they found the victim, who had sustained a stab wound to his neck from a ballpoint pen,” Kerr said.

Light rain was falling throughout Santa Barbara County on Sunday, and was expected to continue into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall totals from the storm were fairly modest, generally around a quarter of an inch in most locations.

A Buellton woman was arrested early Sunday for allegedly trying to stab her boyfriend to death, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. Lydia Alicia Gonzales, 40, was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence, said Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer. Bail was set at $1 million.
