    HERKIMER, NY -- A traffic alert in Herkimer, starting Monday, June 16, demolition will begin on the i-90 thruway bridge over Mohawk Street in the village. Mohawk St. will remain open for all traffic during demolition and construction. However, there will be lane closures and lane shifts during the demolition work and overnight hours. Flaggers will be used as needed to assist traffic at the affected intersections.

    ROME, NY -- The 5th Annual Flags of Honor, coordinated by the New York State Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the Lake Delta Kiwanis, is now on display. Volunteers set up the flags on Saturday, June 14, which was Flag Day. The impressive display of American flags is located in the Griffiss Business & Technology Park on Rt. 825. across from the Americu Federal Credit Union. For $25 individuals could have a flag honoring someone living they consider a hero, or in memory of a hero.

    UTICA, NY -- Mohawk Valley residents celebrated Flag Day on Saturday. Utica Elks Lodge #33, along with the Order of the Purple Heart and Boy Scout Troop #111, held a special ceremony at Purple Heart Park on the corner of Whitesboro and Erie Street in Utica. The ceremony honored not only the U.S. flag, but those who served under it. Organizers say in times like these, it's important to remember what the flag stands for. “Flag Day celebrates patriotism.

    CLINTON, NY -- The Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps held an open house Saturday. The family-friendly event was held at COVAC headquarters in Clinton. It offered residents of all ages an opportunity to meet the paramedics and EMTs who serve the community. They also got an up-close look at the ambulances and equipment used during emergencies. There were also appearances by Mercy Flight, the Oneida County Sheriff's office, and Clark Mills Fire Department.

    HERKIMER, NY -- The Herkimer Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program is up and running. The committee responsible for the program wants residents of Herkimer and East Herkimer to know there's still time to get a banner of their own hometown hero. The banners will be hung from National Grid poles throughout the community for the next 3 to 4 years. Prior to Memorial Day the first 20 banners were put up; another 20 will go up later in the week.
