LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Natalie Svidal swept her three individual events at the Kentucky State Single A track and field meet for the second straight year Thursday in Lexington. And she still has another year to go. The Walden School junior won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.57 seconds. She won the triple jump with a leap of 37-03.25 and the long jump, going 17-11.5. She won those events last year as a sophomore and then won the same three during the indoor state championships.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you like underdog stories in the Derby, you need to take a look at Coal Battle. He has won more races than any other horse in the field (five in eight starts) and his trainer is a veteran of the track who never dreamed of having a horse in this race. Not only had 72-year-old Lonnie Briley never trained a Derby horse, but the Louisiana native had also never even run a horse in a graded stakes race before Coal Battle.

Lauren Campisano is showing that it can still be done and at a very high level. She started out playing softball and basketball at Assumption High School. Field Hockey was added in her junior and senior years.
