Lake Nipigon is a large, beautiful body of water. Deep, cold, and clear. It has sheer cliffs, sand beaches, and rocky shores. It is a baby and sometimes a monster. But its rugged beauty is all that and more than your spirit can imagine. In winter, it freezes and is blanketed with snow. As the thick ice melts in the spring, the lake welcomes nature. Loons, ducks, eagles, osprey, and white pelicans return to join the animals that have wintered.

And she still has another year to go. The Walden School junior won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.57 seconds. She won the triple jump with a leap of 37-03.25 and the long jump, going 17-11.5. She won those events last year as a sophomore and then won the same three during the indoor state championships.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you like underdog stories in the Derby, you need to take a look at Coal Battle. He has won more races than any other horse in the field (five in eight starts) and his trainer is a veteran of the track who never dreamed of having a horse in this race. Not only had 72-year-old Lonnie Briley never trained a Derby horse, but the Louisiana native had also never even run a horse in a graded stakes race before Coal Battle.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three-sport athletes used to be a thing. Now it is very rare these days on the high school level with specialization and sports being played year round. It may not typically be easy to work with a legend. It was with Rick. What a privilege to have him here for the last 13 years as he seamlessly transitioned into a new part of his stellar career. A multiple-time Hall of Famer and a Hall of Fame guy. Won’t be the same without Rico.
