By Tom Suddard and Andy HollisWe woke up in the middle of Michigan, where we’d found a fairly clean Super 8 motel and a medium-speed DC fast charger next to the truck stop that, as far as we could tell, served as the center of whatever city we were technically in. The time was 5:00 a.m. We’d arrived at 2:45 a.m. The same clerk who checked us in was still hanging out at the front desk when it was time to leave.

Eating quick, cheap food for a week straight doesn’t do your digestive system any favors. Despite that, our One Lap team, Tom Suddard and Andy Hollis, carry on the good fight from behind the wheel of their Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. By Tom Suddard and Andy HollisAfter two days with our Hyundai Ioniq 5 N on the Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Grassroots Motorsports, we’d learned a lot about the car. We’d realized it wasn’t a big deal to road-trip an EV, and we’d put it shockingly high on the leaderboard: 12th overall! Spirits were high as we topped off our battery at a Tesla Supercharger. But now it was time to hit the track.

By Tom Suddard and Andy HollisWe had a busy registration day at the Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Grassroots Motorsports: Our car, a brand-new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, needed brakes, camber and tires, so we crossed those off our list on a borrowed Tire Rack lift before grabbing our stickers and passing tech, parking our Hyundai in the lot with 80 other race cars. Now it was time for competition.
