Around one in five staff in Stormont’s agriculture and environment department have declared an “immediate family” conflict of interest. More than 600 officials and other employees at the Department of Agriculture, the Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) registered a family-related “commercial interest” in a recent transparency exercise. The department employs about 3,000 staff.

Three major landowners in Northern Ireland are among those benefitting from a £68m tax break across the UK. The Co Tyrone Baronscourt Estate and two landed estates in the Newtownards Peninsula, Killyleagh Castle and Ballywalter Park, are availing of the ‘tax-exempt heritage assets scheme’.
