Shane Berry started work last week as the new field manager for the nonprofit Wood River Wolf Project, a primary program of the International Wildlife Coexistence Network. Now in its 18th year, the Wood River Wolf Project is “a collaboration of community members, livestock producers, wildlife NGOs, and county, state, and federal agencies working together to use proactive, nonlethal deterrents to minimize conflicts between livestock and wolves,” according to a press release.

Earthquakes 'swarm' Stanley area

The U.S. Geological Survey has been tracking a swarm of recent earthquakes near Stanley. A 4.0 magnitude quake centered about 1.5 kilometers northwest of Stanley struck at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, followed by smaller shocks. USGS State Geologist Claudio Berti said more than 100 seismic events have occurred over the last 48 hours in the area.

Carey proposes six-month moratorium on new sewer connections

The Carey Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on June 9 at 7 p.m. to consider an ordinance that would enact a six-month moratorium on new sewer connections. The hearing follows an emergency moratorium on new connections implemented from October through April, mandated by the City Council. “The emergency moratorium was placed on recommendation from our city attorney,” said Mayor Alyssa Cenarrusa.
