Kevin, a retired accountant from Hebburn, has been a supporter since the mid 1960s, has made the story more human and relied less on mere facts and figures.

Three rare Magna Cartas will be displayed next summer at the cathedral to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the 1225 issue in its collection. From July 11 to November 2, 2025, visitors will be able to see the rare documents as part of a new exhibition, Magna Carta and the North.

Sunderland City Council says the notoriously bad parking in Chester Road and Durham Road is being penalised, but opposition councillors say the authority is a 'soft touch' on the issue. In June 2023 the Echo reported on what some had called "lazy, ignorant" parking at the eastern ends of the two roads.

It is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive. It is equivalent to an MBE. Recipients are announced on the monarch's birthday. Love, Amelia supports children aged 0-16 across the North East who are experiencing poverty and hardship.
