There is a reason most of Europe is viewed as strongly as they are, and in the FIFA Club World Cup opener for LAFC, Chelsea FC proved that fact. Despite their current tremendous form as of late, and with the London side playing about as lackadaisical as we have seen from them, it was a steep hill to climb for one of MLS’ best sides.

It’s no secret Los Angeles FC want to be more than just the best team in the MLS. From the very beginning this has been a club that has not settled, and has set their aspirations high. Wanting to win every trophy possible to them, wanting to compete in every competition available, and while they had eyes on becoming LA’s biggest soccer side, they also had hopes of becoming one of the few MLS teams to be known globally.

With all the recent raids, protests, Angel City FC will try and do their part to find a bit of joy, and provide any relief they can as they take the pitch this evening. It is perhaps as poetic as it gets that this week’s opponents are North Carolina Courage. Courage, the one thing permeating throughout the city of Los Angeles at the moment.

Last week we talked about how odd it was to see so many opposing fans, essentially, take over BMO when Club América made their visit with the Club World Cup on the line. This week, there was an even odder sight, or perhaps sound. Well, the lack there of at least. This past weekend things in Los Angeles had ramped up as ICE raids began, the community fought back, and things escalated.

With one International break down, and an even longer break looming, Angel City FC were back in NWSL action and looking to find some consistency at home against Chicago Stars. With the worst team in the league making the trip to Los Angeles, and a new coach at the helm, Angel City were hoping to secure the win at home to help get them back on track and start a bit of a run as the month-long Euros break approaches.
