    By DANNY RODE The Red Deer Rebels' WHL season turned out to be a disappointment as they missed the playoffs, but there was some upside for second year forward Matthew Gard. The 18-year-old led the Rebels in scoring, played for Team Canada in the 2025 IIHF U18 Men's World Championship in Texas, and will be selected in the NHL Draft next month. Gard helped lead Team Canada win U18 gold with a goal and three assists in seven games.

    Career Red Deer Rebel Jace Weir is ready to take flight with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. The veteran blueliner has committed to UBC for the 2025-26 season upon the conclusion of his WHL eligibility. Weir, who clocks in at 6-foot-2, 176 pounds, graduates from the Rebels with the second-most games played by a Red Deer defenceman (279). The 20-year-old spent five seasons in Central Alberta, picking up 13 goals and 74 assists for 87 points in 279 games over five seasons.

    The Red Deer Rebels have announced that due to personal reasons, Dave Struch is unable to continue as the club's head coach. Struch joined the Rebels as Interim Head Coach in March 2024 and guided the club to a second-round playoff appearance. He was named full-time Head Coach prior to the 2024-25 season. "Dave has made a difficult, but important decision in order to attend to family matters back home in Regina," says Rebels Owner, President and General Manager Brent Sutter.

    RED DEER - The Red Deer Rebels made two selections at today's 2025 WHL U.S. Priority Draft. With the sixth overall pick in round one, the Rebels selected forward Eli Bimmerle from Bartonville, Texas. Bimmerle played the 2024-25 season with Dallas Stars Elite 14U AAA and collected 94 points (50 goals, 44 assists) in 59 games. In four games at the U.S. 14U Nationals he had three goals and three assists.
