Red Deer firefighters want residents to add a sign to their front yard to send a message to City Hall about the need for fully staffed fire trucks. Brad Readman, spokesperson for Red Deer International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 1109, said about 450 signs have already been posted in yards around Red Deer. "We appreciate the public support," said Readman, adding it's been a stressful time for firefighters.

As of Friday there have been more than 1,000 measles cases reported in Alberta, with infections continuing to rise this week in the South and North zones. Twenty-four new infections were reported in the province on Friday to reach a total of 1,020 known cases since March. New cases included 14 in the North Zone, nine in the South, and one in Edmonton. Measles is an extremely contagious disease that spreads easily through the air, and 25 cases were known to be infectious on Friday.

Results of a 2023 Government of Alberta survey, finally released after a lengthy effort by a media outlet to access the information, show 63 per cent of Albertans were opposed to an Alberta pension plan. Only 10 per cent of respondents were in favour of an Alberta pension plan, and 12 per cent were undecided or undecided.

Another huge truck load of russet potatoes was donated to Red Deer Food Bank so Central Albertans have a second chance to take home some free spuds. Earlier this month, Bill Tamminga, of Tamminga Farm at Cranford near Taber, donated 25,650 kg of potatoes, which were given away within two weeks to mostly Red Deer residents, along with food banks in the region. Few went to businesses.

A third service dog has joined Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre to provide emotional support to children who have been abused and families. On Monday, a Labrador/golden retriever named Rue, trained by Dogs with Wings Assistance Society (DWW), started work at the centre where DWW dogs Quinn and Carter are already on the job.
