Spring is actually arriving! It was a rather cold winter, and April had started with a chill. Nothing stops the seasons changing, though our trees and flowers know it. You’re seeing the buds popping now on the trees. Magnolias are blooming. Daffodils are coming out of the ground. It can’t be long before you’ll be doing the first mowing of the season... perhaps you already have! All that beauty comes with a downside for many.

WARM WITH SOME SHOWERSWe’re waking up to some light showers moving through the region this morning, so don’t be surprised if it feels a bit damp when you step outside. Keep the rain gear handy, though we’ll also catch some breaks of dry time as we head through the day. Highs today will once again climb into the 60s—another mild one for mid-April! But keep an eye on the sky this afternoon and evening, as more scattered showers are expected to develop.

In one final wintry gasp, a portion of interior New England experienced a plowable snow this weekend. In fact, for some towns like Princeton and Ashburnham, where 9.0″ of snow was measured, it was the biggest of the winter season! From Wintry Weekend to Warmer Week Along with the snow came colder weather, of course. Highs ranged from the low 30s to mid-40s out there, not particularly close to our mid-50s averages.

While April may be known for blooming flowers and warmer days, New England is far from immune to wintry weather. While a true snowstorm is exceedingly rare, at least some snowfall is quite common, especially in higher elevations. Over the past decade, Boston has averaged about 1.0″ of snow during the month, while Worcester has seen a more notable 3.7″ on average. The influence of elevation speaks for itself.

You hate to see this season end, but there shouldn't be a shred of disappointment looking back on it. This season will live alongside 2016-17, with a long-lasting legacy for Penn State hockey. What an incredible run... Have a feeling we'll be back soon...

Not the way they wanted it to end, but a season for the history books nonetheless. No doubt @PennStateMHKY will be back 💙 #B1GHockey https://t.co/X1zkSdPlBt

Boston has already enjoyed 10 days in the 60s since the beginning of March. That means 25% of days have reached this threshold, a number only achieved every 6-7 years. I'm not sure why, but it really doesn't feel like it... is it just me?
