The 2SLGBTQ+ friendly Western Cup Tournament is underway in Calgary. “This inclusive tournament brings those people together that may not have felt safe or accepted in regular hockey settings,” said one of the Tournament’s organizers, Jason Finnnan. “Traditionally, hockey can be homophobic, and people do not feel like they can be themselves.”The tournament features 8 teams, with 130 players travelling from as far away as Chicago and California for the event.

More than two dozen victim impact statements were read or submitted for Banff murder victim Ethan Enns-Goneau. A common sentiment shared was how scared people are to go out at night after Enns-Goneau was stabbed to death on Aug. 5, 2022. In September, 25-year-old John Christopher Arrizza was convicted of his second-degree murder. Enns-Goneau’s partner, Lori Pieters, had her victim impact statement read out in court.
