LANCASTER, Pa. — As the holiday of Shavuot approaches, families in Lancaster are preparing to honor one of the most meaningful events on the Jewish calendar — the giving of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai, more than 3,000 years ago. The law is named after Paul Miller, who was killed by a distracted driver in 2010. His mother, Eileen Miller, made it her mission to turn tragedy into change. “I don’t know what caused this crash,” Miller said.

Families lined the streets under sunny skies, waving American flags as local bands, scout troops, fire trucks and veterans marched in a show of unity and respect.
