The Erie, North East and Northwestern school districts have the most candidates running for board nominations. Most candidates will be on both the Democratic and Republican ballots. Six of Erie County's 13 local school districts will have races for school board nominations in the May 20 municipal primary. The Erie School District leads the way with eight candidates seeking party nominations. The North East and Northwestern school districts are right behind with seven candidates each.

Only two Erie County boroughs, Girard and Wattsburg, have contested races in the May 20 municipal primary. Six Republicans are vying for four council seats in Girard, while four Republicans are competing for three seats in Wattsburg. Other heroes ran into burning buildings, onto a motorcycle racetrack and after a runaway vehicle with young children inside. They're among the 12 Erie residents who have received Carnegie Medals for heroism since the medals were first presented in 1904.

Second-phase reconstruction of Depot Road in Harborcreek is scheduled to begin May 6. Work on the northbound lanes from Interstate 90 to near the TA Travel Center exit will begin with the placement of steel barriers. Traffic will be shifted to a temporary roadway with one lane open in each direction. Davison Road will be closed at Depot Road. Traffic will be detoured onto Depot and Belle roads. Additional traffic changes are expected in June as work starts at the I-90 interchange.

Harbor Creek School District had a contended two-year school board term. The apparent winner is Paul Chilcott with 3,555 votes to 920 for Frank Grzegorzewski. That's with 146 of 149 county precincts reporting. #erievotes
