Fort Smith Police arrested 41-year-old parolee William Winters as the suspect of a home invasion on May 2 during which he also assaulted two individuals, according to a release from Fort Smith Police Department. According to police, one of the victims, a juvenile female, fought back and caused Winters to flee the scene. Fort Smith Police will formally recognize her for her bravery in a private ceremony at a later date. Her name is being withheld to protect her privacy.

The Oklahoma State Health Department stated there are 16 total people who have been infected with measles. There are 13 confirmed cases, and the others are listed as probable. Only one person had their MMR shots, and the 15 others are unvaccinated against measles. It takes about two to three weeks after receiving your second dose of the vaccine to be at max effectiveness, according to the Oklahoma State Health Department.
