An additional €16 million has been invested in Drogheda in the last two years to address concerns about rising crime and criminal gangs. The Louth town had been in the grip of a deadly drugs feud in recent years, resulting in violence, deaths and widespread fear and intimidation. The Drogheda Implementation Board was set up in October 2021 in response to the feud, and to implement recommendations of a report into community safety and wellbeing.

A woman who groomed a 14-year-old boy leading them to have sex two years later after she "relentlessly pursued" him, has been jailed for a year. Pamela Lonergan of Treanmanagh, Glenbeigh, Co Kerry previously pleaded guilty to four counts of defilement of a child under the age of 17. The offences occurred at locations in Kerry and Cork in 2008 and 2009. Ms Lonergan was 26 when she first started initiating contact with the minor having met him in a social setting.

A man has been jailed for more than six years for raping his sister and sexually assaulting his niece, in what a judge described as a "particularly sad case". The 33-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the anonymity of his victims, pleaded guilty to one count of rape on an unknown date between 10 and 12 June 2020. The man, from Co Sligo, further pleaded to one count of sexual assault on 12 June 2020. The victims were the man's sister and her daughter, who was then 14.

Something curious is happening in the Irish property market. Bucking age-old trends, house prices are dropping in Dublin and rising outside the capital. The latest Residential Property Price Index data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Wednesday showed that in the 12 months to September, property prices in Dublin decreased by 1.9%, while outside Dublin they went up by 4%.

Anyone who has witnessed the vandalism of life-saving ring buoys in Drogheda, Co Louth, have been urged to contact gardaí. Louth Fire Service responded to a call about a burning life ring at Horse Lane, Drogheda, overnight. The equipment was completely destroyed in the 14th such incident of damage or destruction of life rings in the town this year. Louth County Council has appealed for witnesses who know or may have seen who is damaging the life saving equipment to report it to gardaí.
