Something curious is happening in the Irish property market. Bucking age-old trends, house prices are dropping in Dublin and rising outside the capital. The latest Residential Property Price Index data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Wednesday showed that in the 12 months to September, property prices in Dublin decreased by 1.9%, while outside Dublin they went up by 4%.

Dozens of zero-emission buses ordered by the National Transport Authority (NTA) 18 months ago are not yet in service, partly due to delays in installing charging infrastructure at two Dublin bus depots. The NTA ordered 120 electric buses in June 2022, as part of a framework to provide 800 zero-emission buses for Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann over five years. Of the 120 buses ordered, 100 were for Dublin Bus and 20 were for Bus Éireann.

Republican Jim Jordan has pressed ahead with his bid for speaker of the US House of Representatives, after his fellow Republicans abandoned a backup plan to allow the leaderless chamber to resume business. The House will hold a third speaker vote when it opens for business at 10am EST (3pm Irish time), his spokesperson Russell Dye said. Mr Jordan has fallen short in two votes already.

Families are being urged to a take a 24-hour break from all smart devices today. The annual 'CyberBreak' encourages people to put away their phones, tablets, computers and games consoles from 5pm this evening until 5pm tomorrow. Internet safety charity CyberSafeKids, which is behind the initiative, said a recent survey it conducted shows that school children acknowledge that their use of social media and online gaming is excessive, but need help to learn how to switch off.
