Temperatures across the country will be above the historical average from June through August, according to AccuWeather, with millions of homes expected to face higher energy bills due to the increased necessity for air conditioning, fans and other cooling systems.

A Rochester man has been accused of breaking into a house in northwest Rochester this week and repeatedly shooting a woman, according to police. Robert Johnson, 44, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree grand larceny, all felonies, said Capt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department.

A 63-year-old woman died Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on Lake Avenue in Rochester, according to police. The crash occurred on Lake Avenue, near Riverside Street, just before 4:30 p.m., said Rochester Police Capt. Michael Jones. A southbound vehicle driven by a 63-year-old East Rochester woman drifted into the northbound lane and struck an oncoming car. The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital where she died from her injuries, Jones said.
