The Ripon Unified school board will meet today at 7 p.m. to pass the 2025-2026 proposed budget along with the Excess General Fund Reserves consisting of the Review of Reserves is in compliance with state education code. The session will take place in the Ripon City Hall Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave. A public hearing was held on the budget to be adopted for the subsequent year per Education Code 42127. The budget was made available to the public on June 17.

The City of Lathrop Police Department reported an arrest of one individual in possession of illegal fireworks. Officer G. Embers-Harding and Corporal Daniel Beringer were praised by their “outstanding, proactive” police work in the recent vehicle stop. It’s there they came across 1,815 pounds of illegal fireworks along with 72 homemade explosives, local police said via social media on Monday.

Punkin Legris heads the Ripon Afterschool Program. RAP, as it’s better known by, is a structured and supervised program designed to provide a safe environment for students at the various campuses at the end of the regular school days. RAP also had its summer of 2025 program. At Monday’s Ripon Unified school board meeting Legris, who is the director of RAP, was recognized as Expanded Learning Coordinator of the Year.

The Ripon City Council recently gave the go-ahead for staff to administer the second installment of the Poet Laureate grant money to the Ripon Arts League. This was in accordance with agreement from the funding source – Library & Literacy for San Joaquin County, which isa philanthropic organization administered by the SJC Foundation, for the poet laureate program.
