EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — With less federal funding, rising costs and more demands for services, the Township Committee introduced a budget last week that proposed a one-cent increase in the municipal property tax rate. A public hearing for the budget is scheduled for 5 p.m. May 14 at the municipal building, 3515 Bargaintown Road. Last year’s budget was $50.2 million. This year’s proposed budget is $52.8 million, officials said during the April 9 meeting. Last year, the budget rose by $1.4 million.

When the budget was introduced last month, the township proposed a 0.9-cent tax rate increase, which would help pay for new police officers and two additional part-time employees.

ATLANTIC CITY — Jerry Ryan's annual Elephant Talk Indie Music Festival provides an oasis for local acts daring enough to play their own music in an area known for tourists lapping up songs they already know played by cover bands. The 16th edition of the festival will feature more than 60 acts Friday through Sunday at the Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall in the city's Orange Loop dining-and-entertainment district.
